The problem is that there is no motivation for anyone to do anything about it. People go to the Police and get responses like "why don't you just ignore it?" or "stop using social media then". Lawmakers should be allocating more resources and training on actually tackling it.

And don't get me started on banning encryption — that will have the fantastic effect of barely affecting serious crime whilst removing everyone else's privacy, security, and making them far, far more vulnerable to serious crime.
