    1. I have just now cracked out a fairly short very rambling blog post. It's about: - Web nostalgia - The web experiments I grew up on - Some code that translates text through lots of languages - And a truly terrible quiz round I made alistairshepherd.uk/writing/lost-in-translation-and-nostalgia/

As a kid one of my favourite things was a small booklet that came with one of my dad's magazines. It was titled something like "100 great websites" and that book and the sites it listed have led me to the position I'm in today. One of those sites was called "Lost In Translation".

Inspired by that site I made some code to help me make a quiz round. The round was truly terrible - the average score was 1/10, best 4/10 and my partner got rather angry at the 0/10 he received. It wasn't all bad though, I wrote some simple code that reminded me of that booklet.

The post is mostly self-serving, but I found myself thinking and talking about websites that are long dead that shaped who I am. I wanted to put my thoughts down, and what better way than to publish them as permanently as I can, on the internet those sites introduced me to.
